About Me

Welcome to On the Radar.

I'm Ralph Darvill, 45 years old and living in Watford, England, where I was born.

I have always loved photography and began by using an old Brownie box camera; graduating to my Father's old Braun "Paxette", before getting my first "serious" camera- a Pentax ME Super- in 1979, this carried me through for many years including being my means to record my round the World trip in 1998-99, until 2000 when it was stolen and I replaced it with a Minolta Dynax 5.

I resisted the digital "revolution" for a few years before dipping my toe in the water by purchasing a Nikon Coolpix 4500-initially for "digiscoping" birds.

Being able to edit and store pictures electronically was a revelation and in 2005 I purchased a Nikon D70 and began to explore digital photography more deeply.

A trip to Kenya in 2007, where I shot mainly in RAW format, irritated my "NAS" (Nikon Acquisition Syndrome) and led me to buying up one of the many Nikon D200s that came onto the second hand market since the advent of the D300.
